Impulse to Dance

Impulse to Dance

July 2013, Julie Aldous had posted in a model group on Facebook an inquiry to find a photographer to photograph an idea she had involving dancers. I thought I had some pretty decent photographs of dancers, so I sent her a message with a link to some of my galleries. I honestly didn't think I stood a chance since I was a very new photographer in the Utah scene. A few hours after my message, she replied, "Ok. We need to meet and talk about this. I like what I see. Love actually!"

We met up a few days later and discussed the idea, inspired around photographer Jordan Matter's Dancer's Among Us. We were both on board and were excited to get started. From there we planned our first shoot at City Creek Center in Salt Lake City. It just so happened that day was National Dance Day, so we felt like that it was meant to be.

Impulse to Dance
Julie, the visionary, and I, the photographer, not only wanted to capture the art of dance, or the crowd reaction, but more specifically to show the inner desire, the impulse, that a dancer has. For those who truly love dance, those that live and breathe it, they get it. They walk down the street thinking about dance, about how they love to dance, about how it fills their soul with joy. They see a puddle and think "grand jete". They want to dance and they don't care where they are, or who see's them. Thus, the Impulse to Dance.

If you are a dancer that would be interested in being involved, please contact Casey or Julie and let us capture your Impulse to Dance.
